Did you watch The OC? I did. In fact, I hosted 'OC Nights' in high school where my closest friends would come over and we'd eat pizza and gasp together at each dramatic moment. The show, as ridiculous as it is, brings back a lot of good memories and seemed to have stuck with most people from my generation.
I recently went to LA for a short surf trip and, while there, I realized one of my travel companions was also equally obsessed with the early-2000s teen sitcom. Tijana, a super rad friend and fellow-surfer, was also familiar with the show and upon realizing how close we were to the filming locations we gathered our friends and made a mission to track the diner down and recreate some of the most iconic scenes.
So, once I realized Tijana's skills on camera (jokes aside, she's actually a great, experienced model) I thought that we should probably take advantage of the beautiful landscapes and iconic California sunsets to get a few photos while we're there. The following are the results of a casual, hour-long shoot along Hermosa Beach inspired by Marissa's most brooding, sad moments.
Aside from being the source of endless OC sing alongs (See: California by Phantom Planet) the quick introduction to LA was super rad. Although I would probably prefer a less developed, westernized beach, it was interesting to see which stereotypes held true and get a small glimpse into the iconic LA lifestyle.
Throughout our time there the waves weren't necessarily ideal (still fun!) so we spent a lot of our time long boarding up and down the boardwalk; pretty sure we covered almost 40km on our boards over three days. Some of the best moments of the trip were cruising up and down the coast during the beautiful sunsets.
Cool. Big thanks to Tijana for posing for the photos and the rest of the crew for making it such a rad weekend!
