The Rifle & The Writer: Same "client", 4 years later.

January 05, 2017

I'm hesitant to even consider these guys as a "client" but, if I were to, I'd have to say that The Rifle & The Writer are easily one of my favourites to work with. Some of the reasons I would say this is because A) they're driven and passionate about what they do and B) there's complete trust on both sides.

I've been working with Colby and Rebekka for 4+ years and they've always had faith in our process. Both parties are so easy going that it's always an enjoyable process to bounce ideas off each other and see what we get out of it. Although I'd probably reconsider a few things I did from my first shoot back in 2012 (I've come a long way!) we've always finished each project with everyone stoked on the results.

The recent shoot was just for some updated promo images (something I recommend all bands stay on top of!) so there wasn't too much pressure. Playing off our last shoot at a diner we decided to continue with the simple theme of them in a relatable environment. Also, with their song writing and musical style, the band could be seen as a slightly dark band so we enjoyed playing with that image and creating somewhat out of place images that avoid the stereotypes of the dark country band they could be seen as.

The Bowling Centre is an "iconic' location in our mutual hometown of Brockville. Like our last shoot in the diner, it was equally as exciting to be able to shoot in a location that has a sense of nostalgia from both of our pasts.

The Bowling Center has that great 'vintage' feel that any small-town bowling alley has.

Finally, off topic... here's an image I came across from our first shoot where they managed to get two vehicles stuck in the same ditch. Anything for the shot!

Two vehicles stuck in the same ditch! Also, Colby... what's up with your leg?

Go check out their latest music video! It's awesome, they're awesome and it's never wrong to support great local artists!

Thanks! And happy new year!

So stoked on the lowriders shoot I did with my awesome team, @heroimages. Head over there to check out more.
It’s hard to believe it was only a few months ago that I was poking around the coasts of Newfoundland. 2018 was quite the year.
Excited to finally be going through photos from my previous trip across the country!

I took this from my bed while I was camped out along the coast of the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia.⠀
⠀
During the entire trip I spent the most consecutive time alone here. I spent around 3 days just hanging out in and around my van, writing, taking photos, watching the fishing boats pass by and staring at the ocean while hoping to see a whale. Over those 3 days I spoke to one person and that was the gentleman who sold me a few beer.
This is me lately. Went from full-time #vanlife / adventure-hippy to full-time photographer/art-director with @heroimages.

It’s funny the way life throws you different opportunities and redirects your path in exciting ways. Particularly excited to spend the next phase of my life focusing on my professional, creative, and personal well being.

And, if curious, the van has just been put to sleep for the winter! It's not a great winter vehicle and I much prefer to stay in a heated home throughout the winter months. But don't worry! It'll be back in the spring and i'm sure it'll be heading in and out of the West Coast from my home base once the snow melts.⠀
